Yikes, they certainly haven't got many redeeming qualities, unless it's sending money to Remus which he must hate taking from them in several ways.

In my mind, they think they're doing it because they care, and I think they really do in their warped way, but they're also compensating for what they're not willing to give him, and aren't really interested in how he'd prefer to be supported. If that makes sense. The rest of it is up to interpretation, of course. :)
