She met him at sixth year. He was a boy-next-door. He was nice and he took her to the pubs.
He whispered he preferred blonde hair. Eager to please, she made her hair blonde. It was not that big of a deal.
After the third date, he took his hand and they went up to a room.
"Can you morph?"
"Yes, I can."
"I mean, can you morph into something prettier?"
"What? Why would I- No!"
"Come on, Tonks, it's not that big of a deal."
"I want a man to accept me for me. Not because I have a good body or if I'm perfectly pretty!"
"Men are the same. They like curves and pretty faces. Why do you think I went out with you? Now, you say you want a man who's like that? There is no such thing. All men are wolves." He tried to cup her face to kiss her again, but Tonks turned away.
"Look at me," he pinned her to the wall. But Tonks slid her wand out of her sleeves, and in a moment, the boy was thrown back into the duvet.
She stood there panting and holding her wand high. Confused, hurt, but determined.
Upon seeing that he was not going to get anything that he wanted, he donned his coat and fled.
She cried herself to sleep that night. Were all men beasts? Are they all like wolves ready to prey upon sheep? If what he said was true that what she wanted was something that does not exist, perhaps it wasn't such a raw deal to be stuck with him after all...
Miles away from her there was a man, gazing intently in a lake, thinking, how it could be, that he was the only wolf to ever be.
